HVAC System Replacement Cost Estimator
Estimate the total cost to replace your HVAC system including equipment, labor, and materials based on your home size, system type, and efficiency requirements.
Only applies to mini-split systems
Formula
Total Replacement Cost = Equipment Cost + Labor Cost + Ductwork Cost + Materials Cost + Permit Cost
- Required Tonnage = Home Size (sq ft) ÷ 500 sq ft/ton → rounded up to nearest 0.5 ton
- Equipment Cost = Cost per Ton × Tonnage × Efficiency Multiplier (varies by system type: $900–$5,000/ton)
- Labor Cost = Base Labor per Ton × Tonnage × Regional Labor Index ($500–$1,200/ton base)
- Ductwork Cost = Home Size × $0.55/sq ft × Condition Factor × Regional Index (0% for good, 30% for repair, 100% for replace, 115% for new)
- Materials & Misc. = Equipment Cost × 10% (refrigerant, wiring, concrete pad, etc.)
- Permit Cost = $400 × Regional Labor Index (if selected)
- Cost Range = Total ± 15%
- Annual Energy Savings = $1,200 baseline × Efficiency Savings % (High: 15%, Premium: 30%)
